Jim Gaffigan talks about food
Video Rating: 4 / 5

Reasons to be vegetarian. Maybe an insight for meat eaters, but please no abusive comments about my views. No horrific images are included. Some facts and quotes some may find interesting. I actually dislike this video to some extent now, as it was the first one i did, but i’m still getting people saying they like it, so it’s staying up. I am now vegan and hate that i’ve used photos of quorn products on this! But nevermind.

For my birthday this year, I plan on having nothing but meat for my birthday dinner! 😀 Steak, pulled pork, pork chops, bacon… o.k., I lied, I will be having vegetables. Chicken, crab, lobster, fish and shrimp!

  5. lanceyourlot says:

My favorite vegetables are chicken and fish. It’s not meat unless it moos or squeals. Bacon is a meat unto itself.

While this is indeed hilarious, Gaffigan is only highlighting the true ignorance of most American citizens that don’t understand a vegetarian’s (or vegan’s) motive. Quite sad, and funny – as presented here.

@Evan2718281828 Higher usage? Not exactly. Although 80% of CORN is used for livestock feed, that is still only 1 crop out of many. In the US, Corn covers about 75 millions acres, this is out of a total of about 300 million acres (perhaps more). Adding to that the small percentage of the other crops grown that go towards livestock feed, about 80 million acreas is used for livestock. 80 million acres is alot, but compared to 220 million acres that go to other uses, food etc, it’s really not.

  22. Evan2718281828 says:

@chaosprod. “Well it actually does damage the enviroment.” Conceding for now that this and all the examples you listed after were true, this only digs meat eating a deeper hole, since raising livestock constitutes a higher usage of crops than eating crops does. A hamburger was made with ~15 times the amount of crops than crops were, that’s my whole point. That’s why people should eat crops instead of meat.

Garlic- nice to know, but until that is actually practiced, eating meat still pollutes

  23. chaosproduction says:

@Evan2718281828 Well it actually does damage the enviroment. Land desertification, soil contamination, high water usage, water pollution, poisonous pesticides contributing to air pollution and damaging to health, fumes from fertilizers etc.
Pollution released from cows methane release can be easily attacked by simply adding garlic to livestock diet. Garlic compunds attack the organisms that produce methane in a cows gut by 50%. No need for diet change to lower that pollution.
